Hedgehog
(Erinaceus europaeus) is Britain’s only spiny mammal
with up to 5000 spines! The spines are actually modified hairs that
replace themselves every 12 months. Muscles cause them to stand on
end when the hedgehog is under threat to help protect their vulnerable
underside which is covered in soft fur. During the day
shelter comes in the form a nest of leaves, moss and grass. Between
November and mid March Hedgehogs will hibernate in their nests, often
in hedgerows. For fascinating
information and advice look at the website of The
British Hedgehog Preservation Society (a registered UK Charity
– No. 326885) they are dedicated to helping & protecting
hedgehogs native to the UK (Erinaceus europaeus). NH14 (120mm x 120mm) Blank
