Dragonflies
Oops, technically this should be called Dragonflies and Damsel Fly because creeping in from top left is an Enallagma cyathigerum, a Common Blue Damselfly. Slender bodies and tiny "hammer shaped" heads distinguish them from Dragonflies which are larger, stouter, stronger and with eyes the sometimes meet on the top of their heads. The large Dragonfly (top right) with yellow markings is a Gold Ringed Dragonfly (Cordulegaster bidentatus). Emporor Dragonflies (Anax imperator) fly in from the middle-left and bottom, whilst Aeshna cyanea flies in centre right, probably from some marsh or lake. If you love these you will love our Ruddy Darter (Sympetrum sanguineum)
