Clown Fish
(Amphiprion ocellaris)
We were surprised to discover that the most common Clownfish, (Amphiprion
ocellaris) measures only approximately 7cm long. Coral reefs
provide the perfect habitat for Clown Fish. Clownfish live in a mutual
relationship with sea anemones and some cases some soft corals, or
large polyp stony corals. Once an anemone or coral has been adopted,
the clownfish will defend it vigorously. An anemone provides protection
and food for the Clownfish. Clownfish are most prolific throughout
the Indo-Pacific from Sri Lanka to the Philippines and Northern Australia.
