JADDCARDS - Natural History Greeting Cards
"Madagascan Chameleon" - World Wildlife

Madagascan Chameleon (Chamelonidae) Family name meaning "little Lion"

Chameleon facts for the uninitiated! Almost half of the world's chameleon species live on Madagascar, approximately 60 different species. Chameleons all live in trees and are insectivores, some lay eggs and some are live bearers. They have fantastic gripping feet and a prehensile tail. Chameleons have amazingly long, sticky tongues, which shoot out to catch insects.

Chameleons are perhaps best known for their ability to change colour, but they change in response to fear, light, temperature, and other environmental changes rather than in response to their surroundings, as is commonly thought.

This Chameleon greeting card image can also be found on our key rings and fridge magnets.

Madagascar is a very special island boasting two thirds of the world’s chameleon species. Find out more about the island from ‘Seacology’, the world's premier non-profit environmental organization with the sole purpose of preserving the highly endangered biodiversity of islands throughout the world.
