JADDCARDS - Natural History Greeting Cards
'Barn Owl'
- British Wildlife

The Barn Owl (Tyto alba) is a much loved bird that is widely distributed across the UK. Barn Owls can be seen in the open countryside, especially favouring coastal marshland and farmland, frequently roosting and nesting in the shelter of barns and also in isolated buildings in villages and towns. Field boundaries, roadside verges are also places we might be lucky enough to spot one, particularly at dusk.

Barn Owls lay 4 to 6 white eggs from April to early May. The eggs hatch at intervals each having been incubated, solely by the female, for approximately 30 days. The young may remain in the nest for at least two months, maybe even three.

Our Wood Mouse had better keep its distance, as mice, voles and shrews comprise the Barn Owls diet. Barn Owls will also eat frogs and insects.

This Barn Owl greeting card image can also be found on our key rings and fridge magnets.

Learn so much more about the Barn Owl by looking on the The Barn Owl Trust website. Also read about all the conservation and research work they do that helps protect this beautiful owl
